A Hotel For When You Only Need A Moment

There is a hotel in downtown San José called Momentos. It has no website. You won’t find it listed in any mainstream guidebook, now can you book it on Tripadvisor. It’s not the kind of place where you enjoy the view, explore the city, and make a home base for your trip to Costa Rica. It’s the kind of place where you go in, do your business, and get out. Very few people actually stay the night.

There are hotels around the city that rent by the hour, 12-hour blocks, and full days. Johns bring prostitutes to these kinds of establishments, philanderers use them to avoid detection by their partners, and amorous young couples sometimes prefer these hotels to their mother’s living room couch.

Hotel Momentos offers such amenities as hot water, private bathrooms, cable TV, and good prices. It is also open 24 hours a day so that if you get the itch at noon or midnight you won’t be left out in the cold.

We do not recommend travelers stay in such accommodations unless they are explicitly seeking out a furtive romp away from prying eyes. But even then you’ll want to get back to your “main” hotel once all is said and done.
